Environmental Permits

The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) is responsible for issuing water, storm water, air quality, wetlands and solid waste permits. For information on all types of permits, please visit the DEC's website.

Water

The NYS Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPEDS) program is approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for the control of waste water and storm water discharges.  For more information about SPEDS permits and to determine if a permit is needed, please click here.

Air

The NYS DEC administers an extensive air pollution control permitting program based on the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. The Amendments established a facility-based operating permit program combining all regulated emission sources at a facility into a single comprehensive permit. For more information about these permits and to determine if an air quality permit is needed, please click here.

Wetlands

In order to prevent the despoliation and destruction of freshwater wetlands, the NYS DEC is charged with implementing the Freshwater Wetlands Regulatory Program. Activities such as the construction of buildings and roadways or the modification, expansion or restoration of existing structures require a wetland permit. For more information about these permits or to determine if a permit is needed, please click here.

Waste

The NYS DEC regulates and monitors solid and hazardous waste generators and promotes sound management of waste by communities, businesses and industries. For more information on solid and waste management permits, please click here.
