On behalf of Onondaga County, the Greater Syracuse Foreign
Trade Zone Board, working closely with the Economic Growth Council,
administers the Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ). The Syracuse FTZ is a
specified, secure area where goods being imported or exported may
be stored, without being subject to United States Customs duty,
until they are ready to be transferred into or out of the country.
The ability to create subzones when the General Purpose Zone cannot
accommodate the necessary activity of manufacturing and/or assembly
operations on commercial property also exists. Growth Council staff
works closely with local users of the General Purpose Zone and
the two current subzones to support their FTZ operations and can
help companies assess the potential advantages of participation
in the FTZ program.
